The same types created HUAC and then lobbied for its demise. HUAC was initiated at the request of Soviet spy and Dem Congressman Dickstein. The Soviets wanted him to use it to cast all anti-communists as nazis. But then the Dems lost the House and HUAC was used to expose New Deal communists. The most spectacular if not disturbing example is the case of Congressman Samuel Dickstein, the man who introduced the legislation that eventually became the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
