And yet, in spite of all the protestations and almost universal bearish sentiment, gold and gold stocks have been almost the only things to perform well this year.

While the extreme that bambs is forecasting probably won't come true, it doesn't have to.

Gold has indeed been in a 21 year bear market. That nicely coincided with a long bull market. It isn't unreasonable to think that once the equity market turned, that gold might turn also. In addition, note that gold actually bottomed in late summer of 1999, which pretty closely coincides with when core CPI also bottomed out and started upward.
