Northern Alliance denies harbouring spies

Afghan Islamic Press, based in Peshawar in Pakistan, is a news agency close to the Taliban movement in Afghanistan. Out There News is translating important AIP stories so that a worldwide audience can read their perspective on events at first hand.

Monday 8 October 2001

PESHAWAR: The Northern Alliance has denied the presence of any American or British troops in areas under its control, reported Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) Monday morning.

A spokesperson for the Alliances Ministry of Defence Mohammad Habeel denied the claims made by the Taliban that a large number of British and American spies have entered the northern areas of Afghanistan in the guise of journalists.

There are more than 600 foreign journalists in areas under our control, but there are no British or American soldiers or spies, Habeel told AIP by satellite phone. He also denied reports that the United States and its allied forces have established a military base in the region. There is no foreign military base here, he clarified.

He confirmed reports that a large number of people, especially in Badakhshan and Takhar province, are fleeing to areas under the Taliban control. However, he said, these people are leaving for economic reasons and not on political grounds as has been claimed by the Taliban.

Meanwhile, Taliban's Education Minister Mullah Ameer Khan Mutaqqi rejected the claims by the Northern Alliance that its forces have gained ground against Taliban in Samanghan and Ghor provinces. All their claims are false. They are just spreading disinformation as part of the American plan of making false propaganda against the Taliban in order to hurt the peoples morale, he said.

Of course. Arafat cannot afford the world seeing his students support Bin Laden.
It is cheaper for him to have kids killed, even by numbers, rather than face the risk of yet another shift in the world opinion against his policies.
He has learned the hard way. Ten years ago he was kissing Saddam on both cheeks.
