By the way, what was the original intent of this thread?

Foreign affairs including terrorism and how to avoid it.

Since the major cause of mass terrorism seems to be religion, it would be easy to stop terrorism by getting rid of religions. Maybe other countries could follow the example of US and not allow religion in schools, govt., businesses and public offices.

-LOL-

that's one of the best kept secrets of our time...

As I outlined in the header, I just wanted to discuss the articles in Foreign Affairs magazine with a few online friends. The events of 9-11 changed the world and so I decided to expand the scope of the discussion for a while. Funny thing though, I was going to be happy with 10-20 posts a day but instead I have 150-250 -- I feel like I'm trying to swallow the Amazon!

Incidentally, y'all have started your subscriptions to Foreign Affairs...right? <g> I'd like to get back to business one of these days.

Maybe someone should have put an expiration date on these "religions" and their holy books as they didnt account for the modern era.

“The task of organized religion is not to prove that God was in the 1st century, but that he is in the 20th.”
S H Miller, Dean, Harvard Divinity School Quote 14 Nov 65

Even Einstein late in his life realized the folly of faith.

Faith enables people to live in the midst of great insecurity without despair. It is an attitude, it’s what kept the Children of Israel alive during two thousand years of exile.

“Hope, like faith, is nothing if it is not courageous; it is nothing if it is not ridiculous.”
Thornton Wilder. The Eighth Day Harper & Row 67.
