The Gulf War comes to mind.

But militarily, this may be the first time...

I was thinking of the Gulf War, Chris, where I think Britain gave a more than proportionate share of the air strikes, based on the respective sizes of the two armed forces. I think there may have some other instances in the past half-century. I thought we let Britain down in their war in Falklands, when we were pretty neutral between them and Argentina. If the tables had been reversed, I think Britain would have taken our side regardless of their interests in the other side. I just like this spirit, where you take your best friend's side without analyzing everything first. We all need friends that we can count on like that.
