Lots of room for honest disagreement. My child is barely five years old. Because of the limited TV exposure he gets, he is an avid reader. Well, he can't really read very well, but he does love books, and insists on being read to.

He can watch videos pretty much as he pleases if he is home and the weather does not allow outside play.

When we travel and are in a hotel with 95 cable channels, I allow him to go hog wild. This way, unlimited TV is a treat yet he is still channeled at home to reading or other physical activities instead of being mesmerized by the box.

I've seen far too many children spend too much time in front of the tube watching garbage, i.e., pre-teens watching hours of junk like Jerry Springer.
