New Marketing Data: Four Out of
Five Extraterrestrials Prefer Intel

The Intel® Pentium® 4 processor is not only the perfect engine for PCs here on Earth, it is rapidly becoming the processor of choice for inquisitive aliens who visit our planet in search of novel human technology.

That's the theme behind the worldwide "Technology Quest" advertising campaign being launch by Intel Oct. 8. The campaign, which will include advertisements on television, in print, and on the Web, is designed to build on the awareness established by the Blue Man Group campaign, which was wrapped up in May of 2001.

The ads will feature technology aficionado aliens who visit Earth to investigate the electronic gizmos available to humans, only to find that human technology is dull and boring. Until, of course, they happen upon an Intel Pentium 4 processor which, when plugged into their alien PC, brings all the music, digital photos, and video to life.

Has AMD even announced any 0.13 um products?

If this does not happen by Q4, all discussions regarding Athlon vs P4 performance will be moot. If it does not happen by Q1, all discussions regarding AMD will be moot. We will have to find some other topic on this forum.

Murmurings indicate 0.13 micron products (most likely not SOI, but the bulk process) aren't due until Q1 of next year. Hammer apparently be commercially available until '03 at this point.

Intel is looking more and more like the Intel of old (Northwood at 2.2+GHz on the horizon, 533MHz FSB for the P4 next year), whereas AMD is starting to look more and more like the AMD of old (read "red ink").

Noel, Re: "Has AMD even announced any 0.13 um products?"

Nope. The last I heard was an ambiguous quote from a link on the AMD thread. An AMD representative was quoted as suggesting .13u parts "next year".
