I never said to not try to prepare but was trying to say to be realistic.
############################################################

You have gas masks. You must think they are of some value. I think how valuable they are depends on what toxin one is trying to protect oneself against and how well one can use the gas mask.

No biological/chemical was used on Israel by Iraq.
############################################################

In hindsight we know this. Prior to the bombing finishing one did not know what could happen. There might have been some kind of biological chemical attack. Israeli's tried to prepare for it, as they should have.
###########################################################

As a matter of fact, some Israelis died from suffocation in their masks because they didn't know how to use them. ( Reported on CNN)
############################################################

I find it very easy to believe that a few did.
############################################################

I still maintain you won't even know you have been exposed until it is too late unless you are near a military base or civil service area where sensors are in operation or you have your own supply of M-8 and M9 Chemical detection paper which gives is highly toxic and gives false positives at times.
############################################################

Again I think it depends on what toxin you are protecting yourself against. For some I am afraid you are right.
##########################################################

Hopefully this whole exchange will be for naught and we won't have to find out but I would wager that the casualties would be close to the same for those that have masks and those that don't.

############################################################
We both hope we don't find out. As far as equal casualties for those with gas masks and those with out. Well if you are talking about J 6pak and people who listen to Abbie for investment advice, I am afraid your right. For people who are smart enough to make money in a bear market I am not so sure I agree with this completely. Again I think a lot of this has to do with what toxin is used. Sealing a room against bacteria is not an impossible home project. I know people who grow Shitakke mushrooms and filtering systems to remove bacteria sized particles out of the air are not that hard to use. If I am remembering correctly they are no harder to use than an ordinary home filter. Just more expensive. Filtering toxic gasses out of the air is a completely different story. Bacteria are a LOT bigger than molecules of gas.

I think Jerry is doing the right thing. I also think that if the public got hysterical and everyone went out and bought gas masks some people would suffocate trying them on.
Sorry if I took your post wrong. I have been getting bashed a lot for suggesting that people have a small supply of Iodine. For the protection it affords, the $2 it would cost and one trip to the drug store, it seems stupid to me in this time and age not to have Iodine on hand. Thanks for the information :)
