EP,

I'm pretty sure "homeland" includes Alaska and Hawaii. What struck me is that it's not the kind of word we use. But GWB has an incredibly tin ear for language; I suppose he doesn't get enough Peggy Noonan input on his speeches and monikerization process. It's painful to watch him pause and struggle to think of the word he wants for 15 seconds and then find out it's "justice" or "education" or "free." Peggy ought to make him watch Clint Eastwood movies where Clint talks low and talks slow and sometimes doesn't say anything for a loooooooooong pause. We're not going to make him into Oxbridge Tony Blair, that's for sure.

(I'd hate to see the first draft of his speeches, "we going gitem runnin', smokem out, gadddamit, shoot there damn little hides full 'o bullet holes an watchem leek.")
