NEW YORK (Dow Jones)A passenger on an American Airlines plane tried to get into the cockpit Monday and U.S. fighter planes were scrambled, MSNBC reported.

The plane landed safely in Chicago after the passenger was subdued by other passengers, the report said. There was no indication the person was armed.

A government source said it apparently wasn't a terrorist incident but rather a deranged individual, according to MSNBC.
