We would do well to learn other languages. Americans are one of the most ignorant peoples, in terms of bilingualism, and mutilingualism. So yes, we SHOULD be learning other languages. We are only hurting our own children by not making them at least bilingual. European children often are multilingual. It is tremendously stimulating to the brain to be bilingual or multilingual.

And actually, their languages are as good as ours. There isn't any "best" language. I also happen to think every American child should be educated in English, but I would hope parents would keep educating non- English speaking children in their primary language, since bilingualism is a gift and an asset which we should nurture in our people (imo). Not everyone feels that way, but most of those people can barely speak English let alone another language. Sigh. Ah the ignorance!
