Thanks for that list of points.

To me, the most depressing aspect of the terrorist attacks has been the cynical opportunism displayed by our government in response to them.

Middle Eastern terrorists attack. Therefore we must accelerate drilling in Alaska. Who benefits? Bush's big-oil people.

CIA-trained, CIA-armed bin Laden attacks the U.S. in response to CIA's failed assassination attempt (Anybody remember Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile Crisis? De ja vu?). Therefore we must remove rules against CIA assassinations. Who benefits? Bush's CIA people.

Terrorists attack U.S. as we are already teetering at the brink of a deep and prolonged recession. Therefore, we must give lots of our tax money to the rich. Who benefits? Bush's wealthy people.

And of COURSE, to criticize this opportunism is considered anti-patriotic, which has been called pro-terrorism, in a frighteningly McCarthyist way.
