Mitch, William James book, Varieties of Religious Experiences describes many ways in which a person may find God and if I remember correctly refers to "spiritual experiences" that lead a person to profound changes in their personality that cause them to become whole as a person. He also describes the educational variety of spiritual experience whereby a person will change over a period of time rather than having the "flash" of a complete change as some describe it. I must admit, most spiritual growth and positive emotional development comes only after many years of hard work seeking change in the inner self.

One of the best books that I have ever read about the psychology of change is by M. Scott Peck,s "The Road Less Traveled. Mr. Peck is an M.D. in Psychiatry and this book remained on the best seller list fom many months. By the way, Mr. Peck is also a Christian although he admits that their are many ways to find God. I think that someone of your background and experience would appreciate the explanations of grace and the overcoming of entrophy of the individual.
