At the moment, we're not hiring.

We've got about a year's work loaded in the hopper, as they say. But we're not sure what's going to happen next.

You don't believe me, do you? We really do pay more than what we could get away with. This is not entirely selfless. The people are worth it, when we can find them and the decent wages are good for moral and create loyalty which benefits us all in the long run. Our niche is also a bit quirky -- not many companies out there restoring large (50' and better) classic wooden boats. Some would argue that we're all a bunch of so-called Ph.D. boatbuilders and/or ex-hippies -- relatively well-educated and sometimes achingly earnest types that ought to know better. Maybe so.

It's a decent living. Sometimes the work is tremendously hard and miserable, but we all seem to enjoy it.

Being self-employed creates certain anxieties, but these days perhaps I'm not worse off and maybe even better off than many.

I'll keep you posted
