It was response to your above statement. People stuck in an oppressive labor system (that of indentured and underpaid employees) wanted a 'free market' system too. No one could come in and undercut the company on housing, food and supplies. This was an island of virtual monopoly. The problems have been identified already in earlier posts - namely, that economics provides little incentive to calculate the REAL cost to society incurred by creating a problem at some time in the future.

Without market inputs brought about by a full and accurate accounting of the true costs, the result of unbridled capitalism is necessarily exploitation.

<That doesn't say anything good about communism though it just reflects poorly on these companies.
