Possibly in raw numbers, that might be true, although I bet we can dredge up plenty of atheists who didn't deserve existence.

One example, Baader-Meinhof Gang / the Red Army Faction from the late 60's, early 70's was a Marxist radical left-wing terror group. I'm not aware of any religious component. There were a number of others of similar bent back then.

In the 20th century more killing was done by atheist governments upon their citizens, than probably those killed by war.
