Do you think that Mad Bulgarian is a re-incarnation of Ken Benes - the sort of reactionary alter ego he always wished he could be? Gold sucks? Well that's Ken for you!

That is precisely where you and about 3.5 billion people are wrong.

Prosperity is not physics; money is not thermodynamics. You can create an infinite amount of prosperity out of nothing. You don't have to oppress anyone, or steal from anyone, or make anyone unhappy.

Bill Gates made his wealth, and created billions in new wealth to spread to others around the world, through commerce and innovation. This prosperity DID NOT EXIST before Bill Gates; it exists now.

Everybody is green with envy that BG is so rich, but at least in the US we understand that he didn't steal it from anybody. He made it out of thin air and a lot of hard work.

(For a real thermodynamic discussion, one might say that solar energy impacting the Earth was incorporated into the plants and hamburgers that fed BG's brain so he and others could concentrate information that could be made into products that could then be sold to willing buyers, who in turn prospered via the commercial transaction, and the end result was more prosperity plus heat waste radiated back into space. So there.)

What disgusts me is that most people would rather ridicule BG than roll up their sleeves and turn some energy into prosperity (and heat).
