There are not a lot of controversies about such matters where I live. There is a sensitivity to parental consent on sex education, but not evolution anywhere in the DC Metro area that I know of, and all through the required music classes in elementary school, even the Christmas music was secular, and there was inclusion of some Jewish matter (no other religions seemed to be represented), like the Dreidel Song. I do not remember anyone objecting to the secularity of the program, either. On the other hand, the Republican Presidential candidate always wins a majority in my county, and we are represented by a moderately conservative congressman. So I guess I do not view these controversies as being central to conservatism...........
