the strategy outlined by Sean Maloney IS impressive. And Intel has pockets deep enough to keep it going no matter what. And this while "others" are in the confine of few hundred megaherz, a Papst's report and $100M loss / quarter.

Hi Denni, RE: "hell-bent on scaring everyone away from wanting to work at a high-tech startup."

My counter-points are, at a startup:

1. You have early financial visibility because you're closer to the customer and market
2. Planning is better and easier
3. You control your destiny
4. Your sources of income are diversified
5. You have many customers as your source, whereas at a large co you're dependent upon one person
6. You're dependent upon your performance, not the performance of another division
7. Everyone has the same goals, objectives are measurable, performance is visible, accountability is high
8. You don't have to wait until the end of the quarter to know the numbers
9. If you want the numbers higher, you can do something about it, you control it
10. Your financial health is less dependent upon the overall economy. When you're big, you are the economy and your revenue rate can be a mirror of the economy you don't control
11. You see immediate results and satisfaction of your work
12. Highly creative and intuitive environment
13. Intellectually stimulating and refreshing
14. Emotions are higher - folks care, folks are intense, but never mean; friendly but competitive
15. It's like a large extended family, through thick and thin, you're in it together
16. Helping your colleague means revenue goes up
17. Equity % is larger
18. You get to see the satisfaction of providing jobs that pay mortgages and see the satisfaction of providing your vendors with work

Regards,
Amy J
