The Dancing Brown Bear
Musharraff acts like the bear dancing on a hot platform. The Taliban soldiers and the refugees are crashing on its borders to escape the American attack. The Taliban helicopters landed on their soil just like the Iraqi jets landed on Iranian soil during the desert storm. The extremists are setting everything on fire. Musharraff is on a hot seat. He can't sit on it comfortably long enough to finish a meal. He would fit very well in a commercial that promotes stool-softeners, bladder-control agents, and medicaments for anal fissures or hemorrhoids. He is now for some time squiggling, wiggling, wriggling, tightening, crunching, crouching, contorting, writhing and grimacing in pain. Sometimes the pretzel looks more straight than Muharraff. He gets the urge to call Vajpayee and the Americans. He wants the whole thing over in a jiffy. He can't take it any more. He wants to be let off. He has to go right now. The Indians are threatening to strike the POK and wipe out the terrorist camps straddling the LOC. He is making threats that he will "go" then and there if he doesn't get relief soon. The fired generals, the fundamentalists, the ISI, the home-gown Taliban militia, the fundamentalist Taliban backers in the military, the rioters and a looming breakdown of authority are giving him nightmares. God Bless Pakistan and Musharraff, for humans won't.

The pseudo-Royals and the flustered burnoose-wearer
Ratan:

Today's news is that 85% of Americans of all shades and colors, race, religion, practice and affiliation tell that Immigration from middle east should be restricted or stopped. These are law-abiding citizens. The blacks and browns feel that they are not getting the same attention form law enforcement agencies that they were used to before. They are not being followed in the malls and shops by store security agents. They feel left out, ignored and abandoned. And they like it.
I personally saw a middle east man and a fully wrapped middle east woman asked to get out of their vehicle. They were standing on the curbside with flashing law-enforcement vehicles parked askew on the road. This was a few days after the September 11th attack. They looked opulent and almost royal judging from their expensive car and the richness of the wrappings / burnoose. The man had a wheat-like complexion, was lean but not lanky and sported a precisely outlined and trimmed beard. Of course the woman must have been elegant under the wrappers, judging from the man's demeanor. We can only imagine that. I wish that the uglies are wrapped and the beauties are exposed. About fifteen minutes later, the scene melted into a motley gaggle of tourists. What were "the royals" doing in a tourist spot with expensive regalia and a shiny SUV at that point in time? They were probably trying to impress the onlookers with their expensive regalia, and suggest the fellow tourists that they were in American pursuit of happiness and recreation. They, I am sure, were sight-seeing. Yes, they have a right to go anywhere. But is it the time and place? I am sure that one of the nervous tourists with a cell phone alerted the police. What were "the Royals" doing at a such tourist spot, one of the nations's premier institutions? Trying to make the tourists nervous and test the security apparatus. Not at that point in time. Not a good idea.
