You can command respect through the power of weapenry for a while but in the long run you have to earn respect. When hearts and minds see us as the decent human beings we are, then we will have accomplished that. If you think bombs and bullets are enough...I'm wasting my breath.

I wonder what seemed so indecent about the 6000 or so people who perished in the attack that they deserved so little respect.

I know what was indecent about the attackers.

They deserve bombs and bullets.

You mischaracterize my opinion on what should be done. Bombs and bullets are the short term necessities. A massive public relations campaign is an absolute requirement to counter the distortions and teachings of the muslim leadership. Perhaps you missed my suggestion from two weeks ago.

It's really the only way for these two societies to co-exist on this earth long term.

First we have to command respect and flatten the evil.

As for being decent, we have C137s dropping 37,500 meals a day to the starving. Soon we will be dropping medicine. Some might appreciate that.

This is a little cynical, but perhaps under the circumstance, it's justified.

The celebrities among us have and use the power to manipulate us with their own sometimes empty, sometimes dishonorable and hidden agendas. Listening to these people, the bin Laden's, the Jerry Falwells, the Brittany Spears, we often literally forget ourselves, and thereby forget what serves to bind us all, regardless of the accidental influence of popular culture and even religious belief. Individuality and community are sides of the same nickle, the real strength of the one depends on the other.
