This is an interesting idea, but....... Most Arab states agree with what Arafat is doing. Also, I think that the US is more interested in Arab OIL, rather than peace between the Palestinians and Israel.

I have to agree with Robert, Hawk. It's an interesting idea but I'll believe it when I see hard evidence. Remember, most Arab rulers derive huge benefit, i.e. personal survival, from keeping their street's large sense of grievance focused on the Israelis.

I do believe though, from Arafat's abrupt about-face on Hamas, that Colin Powell told him that if he backed the wrong side again the U.S. would wash its hands of him and give Sharon the green light to do as he pleased.
