Inflation coming? Well, the commodities index says no:

mrci.com

I hate to be cynical and untrusting, but does anyone here believe the recent "you are safe" promo being put out by the FBI (to wit, the anthrax was mischief but not terrorism, that Atta et al were looking into crop dusters not for chemical/biological ideas but as a way to crash into a big building, etc.)? The economic data, too, is unsettling, especially the magic hands of Bob Rubin and AG (someone in an editorial called them the "Smith Brothers," cough drops meant to soothe what ails you without doing a damn thing about it); I have the definite feeling we're not being dealt anything more than a blackjack hand--one card up and one down, and we're not allowed to peek at the down card.

Oh well.

Anyway, there's the VIX, settling down at about 36 today,

finance.lycos.com

and it seems to be basing here, telling me it's okay to buy and hold some stocks until the next signal comes out (high 20s??) when it will be time to exit once more.

There was a time when a good creative accountant could make good money cooking books for the mob. There just weren't that many good bad accountants around. Well my friend those times are gone. They are a dime (inflation adjusted) a dozen. We don't need no stinkin' GAAP.

If we can't have GAAP we bettr be watchin' gap.
