Most Arab states agree with what Arafat is doing.

Oh, I don't know about that... Most of them probably could care less about Arafat, especially given his support of Saddam during the Gulf War..

All the Arab regimes want is stability, so they can continue to sell their oil and remain in power.... And if supporting Arafat keeps their own people from opposing their own rule, then so be it. But if he becomes a liability and his own extremists risk inflaming the entire region, they'll consider him a liability.

In fact, the Arabs have been paying lip service to the Palestinians for 50 some odd years, and none stepped forward to integrate them into their own artificially created borders. What the Palestinians ARE to the Arabs states, is a "buffer", and a useful tool of leverage that keeps Israel too occupied to think about confronting them...

There's no doubt that the Arabs don't want a Jewish state in their midst. But being pragmatic leaders, they could, if they chose to do so, accept that reality and prosper from it.

I can see this campaign gaining momentum as a war against all extremist Islam, and for it to provide the political cover for some of the secular regimes to repress their more unruly elements.
