Dear Wayne,

Thank you for the note. My son is 16. The training I had was absolutely spot on for everything in combat I had to do. The only thing they missed was dealing with the loss of the members of your Platoon who were killed or badly wounded. As the Lt. and "father" figure to a bunch of teenagers it is very hard to lose one and not feel it.

Despite all the inter service in fighting over budgets it is and always will be the man on the ground who will win the War and SECURE the Victory.

The Corps recognized and is organized as a Combined Arms Team. In the Marines the only Combat Arm is the Infantry. The wing, tanks ,arty and engineers are Combat Support. All the rest is Combat Service Support. All very important and very necessary to accomplish the mission of the Combined Arms/ Air Ground/ Navy Marine Navel Service Team.

The other good thing about the Infantry is you always get the best souvenirs. This in some respects makes up for having to eat your own "cooking" and the not very sumptuous accommodations.

Best Regards,

P.S. What did you Fly?
