You may speak English, but you don't play golf<ggg>. "Sandbagging" in golf is to intentionally inflate your scores in order to increase your handicap. That is, play just well enough to win.

Sandbagging by Q would imply holding back some goodies to insure the reported results will exceed expectations. This technique was developed into a fine art by Jack Welch at GE.

Best to all,

JRH

Jon,

<< sandbagging >>

Don't golf, eh? <g>

Essentially it's saving a few "strokes" for when you need em. Accomplished in golf by not entering all your low scores but entering all your high ones, for handicap purposes, or not sinking a putt when you don't need it so score recorded for a round (to be entered for handicap) is higher than it might otherwise be. Come tournament day (or when good money is on the line) ya got strokes to spare playing off your handicap.

It is a fine art, practiced by a few at my club and many others.

There is a national amateur golf event called the "Oldsmobile Scramble". At the national finals you will see some of the countries finest "Sandbaggers", as well as a few great amateurs.

At earnings time ya also see some fine "Sandbaggers" as well.
