What we really have is a 'respect gap', Win. Our policies, particularly the way we let Saddam off the hook, have caused all potential allies to doubt our resolve in pursuing our interests. This makes them mistrust us. Our benevolent but irresolute policy has been worse for our interests than a malevolent but resolute policy would have been.

Note the way all the Middle East states have been begging us (in private) to finish the job this time.
