Rande, the last time I bought an I-bond, which was several months ago, when the going rate was 6 percent, the teller at the bank had obviously been trained to steer customers who had any block of cash in their accounts at all to a "financial advisor" of the bank. Of course, these folks want to steer you into annuities, stocks, etc.

The teller looked at my federal government I-bond form, looked at the balance in my account, and asked, rather disdainfully, whether I "normally invest that much money in bonds".

I replied that no, I didn't *normally* invest in bonds at all...but please kindly put thru my bond purchase to the Treasury Department. That was the end of the conversation. <gg>
