As I said, I do not know about security firms hiring. I doubt that it matters much to the 7000 people that Mot says it will lay off, or the half million that will show up in the unemployment stats Thursday morning.

I see that Gulliani is now saying that New York will cut city jobs and expects to see 100,000 jobs lost in NYC after cutting the city budget by 15%. I know Hawaii is targeting similar cuts, but then Hawaii is a tenth the size of NYC.

Most extended profit slump in 30 years -- bubbles set things up for trouble -- add global recession and an uncertain war against terrorism and you get gridlock -- and that is what we have now, gridlock. Japan had gridlock for different reasons, so most people discount any comparison. But the issue is not whether we have the SAME drivers of gridlock, the issue is now what?
