What we need is a sense of balance, so that people do not feel that they are spinning out of control, and so that the essentials, like a commitment to civil liberties or the importance of rational argument, are not endangered. We need to cherish our heritage, without feeling the need to run around in powdered wigs, top hats, or even fedoras.......
