I think your examples are good. Ascendency moves around the world on long term cycles. Except America - no one has seen the change we've seen. Western European culture as you understand it may have peaked. America is working because it has WAVE after WAVE of new blood coming in. Just go and look at the surnames on the patents being issued. Look at the surnames of the instructors at the major universities. I go to the SPIE meetings every year. Only a minority of the contributors are WASPy. That's a good thing. Saying "enough's enough" is an invitation to stagnation, IMO.
