I hesitate to step into the political aspect of this thread but want to second those who are concerned about the knee jerk reactions that could unravel the work of 200 years. What we lost Sept 11 pales in comparison with what we have and what we are. I for one would not like to alter that balance.

As one who has long held the ACLU (confusing as they can be) as a point of reference viz. the constitution ,I cringe to think that a single event, no matter how horrific should serve to erode even one line or one concept of the finest document in the world.

History has been filled with troubled times and events perpetrated in the guise of "national security". If a senator stands up to insist that a couple hours of discussion and debate ensue I fully endorse that position. At the very least a bill rushed through should have strong sunset provisions.

As someone who earlier in a career sat on one of the floors that more recently housed one of the hijacked jets, I do not need to be told I would feel differently if I knew victims. I did. I would hope the country they lived in to be the same that we continue to live in.

now back to the charts.
