You got it right Doug. We don't need more gun laws, we need stricter enforcement and penalties for the current laws. As the saying goes; If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

I agree with what you say. The cultural divide in this country is especially pronounced when it comes to gun control. "Gun control" is a far different concept in large cities than it is in Wyoming or Texas. You're right, we should be seeking a middle ground that includes tougher background checks, etc. However, the Republicans in Congress and the NRA thus far have stonewalled any meaningful reform on the "floodgates" principle. Rather than listen to demagogues from either political party, I've got a better idea: Let's listen to America's police chiefs instead.
