..For the S&P 500 and Nasdaq, it was the third time since the rally started that they powered ahead 2% or more in higher volume than the day before. Multiple follow-throughs are a convincing sign of strength.

Despite the constant parade of naysayers on TV, the market is repeating the patterns of fear and revival seen at all other major bottoms. Until the indexes churn or sell off in higher volume, investors should follow the market’s lead.

One piece of that market-bottom puzzle moved out of extreme territory. Bears outnumbered bulls for the past three weeks, an unusual amount of pessimism normally reserved for the end of bear markets. Indeed, the last time bears held the upper hand in the Investors Intelligence survey occurred near the end of the 1998 bear market. But bulls retook the lead this week as 39.2% of investment advisers polled could appreciate the market’s rally....
