No, the definition is just fine. I'm just saying that the culture can't absorb it and be unchanged. You seem to wish that it won't be. Sorry, ain't gonna happen. It's a contradiction and results in some "culture shock" for both you and the people coming here. People deal with that in different ways. One is idealizing the host culture, the other is idealizing the foreign one. A balance approach is the key - be rational. Enjoy the differences and similarities. Know who you are, don't worry about what other people are.

Can you tell me about these people who you think were assimilated and had no effect on the culture into which they were absorbed? Twenty years ago there was this loud woman in a Jack in the Box commercial saying "It's a taco, Melvin."

People didn't know what a taco was. Now they do.

Jamaicans? Zero?
