AVX gets boost from in-line Q2
--11:03am - By Michael Baron
AVX Corp. (AVX) is rising $2.16, or 12.2 percent, to $19.86, after the Myrtle Beach, S.C., passive electronic components firm reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of $3.7 million, or 2 cents a share, meeting Wall Street expectations. Sales totaled $305 million for the latest three months, a figure the company said was $30 million better than anticipated. Including charges for restructuring, AVX lost $28.1 million, or 16 cents a share. The company also said it's in the process of consolidating its ceramic component manufacturing operation in Vancouver, Wash. The plant employs 340 people. Looking ahead, AVX said the outlook for the next quarter suggests continued sluggishness and that growth expectations have been pushed into calendar 2002
