10:00AM: The initial surge of buying interest has tapered off, but the indices continue to trade near their best levels, bolstered by broad-based buying interest... Technology, financial, retail, and transport are among the key leadership groups helping to lead the advance... Would note that the flurry of buying activity seen in the opening minutes was fueled by trading floor rumors that Osama bin Laden had been captured... There has been no confirmation of those rumors, however, from any news sources... Nonetheless, the rumors succeeded in applying added pressure to short sellers...

Offensive nature of the market to this point is reflected in the fact that the notable laggards are mostly those groups considered to be defensive-oriented (i.e. gold, food, drug, health care)... NYSE Adv/Dec 1832/656, Nasdaq Adv/Dec 1974/760
