Jim, Re: "Seems to me Intel is making most all their profits selling CPUs...all that other stuff is tenuous, no?"

Intel still sees growth in the communications and networking businesses. After all, the world is still not completely connected, and many people still demand it. Being there to fulfill this demand with benefit Intel greatly, but first things first. Telecoms have to cut costs and make broadband services more profitable. At IDF, Intel showed how it was leading in this area. If they at all become successful, the potential for growth would be huge. Processor sales would only be a fraction of Intel's growing revenue.

Nope - Intel offers a wide variety of products - making "one-stop-shopping" possible for its customers who need all these devices.

That's what makes the Intel brand so valuable - and why AMD has to sell at a deep discount to Intel - and hence LOSE MONEY.
