Of course not. The argument was that we shouldn't even look. I think that is dumb. If you don't monitor and try to understand, then you are doomed from the get-go.

The reason basketball is dominated by blacks has to do with musculature and stature as well as a cultural preference. And what part of the economy is that. It's visible I grant you, but not where most blacks make their living. Sociology Ph.D.s are less demanding academically and they don't pay very well compared to "hard science" degrees. Sorry, but it is true.

I'm not interested in bandaids. When everyone is in the job they want because they chose to be there, that's fine. I'm happy with whatever ratio that is. The fact is that there is a correlation between recruitment and representation. The cultural aspects are there too - some cultures don't emphasize academic achievement. I went to high school in a mixed culture community. Mostly Italian and Jewish plus one third "other". The best students were all Jewish, followed by generic "white" and Asian.
