To answer your question, energyplay, puts allow me to keep my tech positions, which I otherwise would lighten or sell calls against. So I am like one of those Cramer mentions: Puts are ammo. They allow you to fire away at longs all day and be protected. They make you bullish. They create a reason to get long. except that for me the worry-free longs are positions I already have open. I don't trust this rally and will be lightening or selling ITM calls by expiration.
