CNBC won't assign anyone to cover that "untold" part of the story because (I hope) they believe, like me, that is a ridiculous position.

To ban short selling during emergencies? Better yet, why don't we ban ALL selling? No, wait, how about the federal government decree that all stock prices will immediately DOUBLE whenever the US is attacked! Now we're talking!

What are you trying to fix? The market sold off on uncertainty and (very) bad news. Rational minds have re-evaluated, and the market has rebounded, short-selling or no.

The crime is what they did to our people and our property. The fact that they may have made money from it doesn't bother me, since I know that money will do them no good when they are face to face with Allah.
