I'm legend in my own mind. LOL B The following is from a fellow cochlear Implantee. I can only wish I will have this success. Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 11:04:05 -0700 From: Sue Subject: My 2nd mapping results I want to share my second mapping with eveyrone. Before going in on Monday I had decided that I liked CIS the best. Don't like the SAS or MPS at all. So, my audie got rid of those two. We worked on CIS until I was happy with what I was hearing. That is program one. Program two is CIS for phone and music. Program three is same as program one only at a higher volume for when program one is no longer loud enough. Then, after that was done she put me in the booth to test me for sentences. Last week when she did this I got 47% on sentences with no background noise. This time, I was listening to each sentence and repeating them back correctly. By the fifth sentence I realized I understood the whole thing and I was quietly weeping. By the time I finished the last sentence, the tears were just pouring down my face. My audie opened the door and she and I just gave each other the biggest hug. She started crying too. Then my surgeon came in and we hugged each other and I told him he gave me back my freedom. He was grinning from ear to ear. Anyway, I got 100% on my test. I had every word right! Then she tested me with background noise. The voice level was at 50dB and the background noise was at 40dB. I scored 57% on that test. She told me I am the first patient she has ever had that did as good as I did so soon after being hooked-up. She was very pleased with me. Then yesterday I went to see the speach therapist. She tested me on different words, sentences etc. while hiding her lips. I again got 100%. She also turned her back on me and said sentences. Again, I got them all correct. She told me there is nothing she can help me with since I already can do everything she would have worked with me on. So I don't have to come back and see her unless I feel there is something I need to work with her on. Also, I can talk on my phone at home, my phone at work and my cell phone. I pretty much understand everything I hear. I am so amazed! Just writing all of this has brought tears to my eyes again! And finally, Monday night I was writing in my journal while the news was on the tv. All of a sudden I realized I understood everything the reporter was saying, AND I WASN'T EVEN LOOKING AT THE TV! So I am so happy. This implant is everything I had hoped for but didn't expect to happen. Hugs, Sue Clarion CII surgery 8/20/01 hook-up 9/28/01 postlingual
