The statement by the Saudi prince was undiplomatic and quite a faux pas. However, what he said is in a general sense true. According to the news reports, this was his language:

"At times like this one, we must address some of the issues that led to such a criminal attack. I believe the government of the United States of America should re-examine its policies in the Middle East and adopt a more balanced stance toward the Palestinian cause."

The problem, of course, is that the Bush Administration before 9/11 was in the process of jaw-boning Israel into accepting the existence of a Palestinian state. Accordingly, the prince should have been a bit more circumspect. The NYC response is equally ungracious.

Anyone with half a brain knows an independent Palestinian state is inevitable and desirable.

MAJOR FAUX PAS on the prince's part....

Claiming the US isn't doing enough to settle the Palestinian issue is no different than if we claimed the Arabs weren't doing enough to moderate the Palestinians...

Just one more person who doesn't "get it"...

And I'm damn glad we returned the check...

>>NYC Rejects Saudi Prince's $10M Gift<<

Rather breathtaking to reject a $10 million gift. But I think the rejection is justified in light of the following. Before all of this is over, we have somehow got to deal with Saudi Arabia...
