<<SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)Juniper Networks Inc. (JNPR) Chief Executive Scott Kriens said the maker of Internet switching equipment expects fourth quarter results similar to the third quarter, when Juniper reported revenue of $201.7 million and operating earnings of 10 cents a share.
Kriens told Dow Jones Newswires that Juniper is forecasting revenue of $900 million to $1 billion for 2002, which would be roughly flat with expected revenue of $940 million for this year.

"It's still a challenging environment," Kriens said. "We will manage our spending to support a profitable business on this agenda."

(This report and related background will be available at the Journal's Web site, WSJ.com.).

Juniper's results were consistent with the company's guidance in July. But Kriens said it is still too soon to say that the telecom market, which contracted dramatically in the first half of the year, has stabilized.

"The real answer ... is nobody knows," he said.

Kriens said Juniper generated roughly $100 million in cash from operations in the third quarter, and has generated $350 million in cash so far this year.

Kriens said Juniper's results were not affected by last month's terrorist attacks. "We didn't see a dramatic impact on the networking industry," he said.
