Do you hold the view that our public schools (elementary through H.S.) discriminate and hold a bias against minority children? yes. Standardized tests are especially biased. Do you think this happens in universities? (If so, I would like to offer you some of my experiences as a professor in the University of Massachusetts system for 30 years). Yes- and no, I'm not interested in your anecdotes. Do you (seriously) argue that minority applicants are denied jobs in our corporations strictly as a consequence of racial prejudice? Not strictly, most of the time, but I'm sure it happens. Look at the antagonism some people here have toward minorities. Can't see some of the people here fairly evaluating minority candidates. Do you feel that the under-achievement of minorities in our society is primarily explained by racial prejudice which denies them equal opportunity, and that it has little or any connection to personal choices and home environment? Under achievement has a lot to do with social status and economic status- which has little to do with personal choices, and a lot to do with cycles of poverty and poor education. Do you believe that Colin Powell could never become president, owing entirely to a racially biased electorate? I don't know. Can you explain 200 years of absolutely no people of any color other than white occupying the Pres and Veep slots? I don't think we both live in the same society. I like my society better. It's pretty funny to me that for over 100 years blacks and women were were disenfranchised in this country, and for over 160 years there was blatant racism, then you get a START about 40 years ago of redress, and pretty soon some white men start complaining about inequity. To be really fair there ought to be at least 100 years of blatant reverse discrimination. But of course things won't be fair. Not in that sense. But you really ought to think about it that way. What on Earth did you teach? I took you for someone who had never gone to college. Don't feel obliged to answer me if you don't feel like it. I ask these questions only in the interest of trying to understand your view of the society we both live in. JC
