If however you want to discuss the issue of special accommodations for people from different cultural or linguistic backgrounds that might be interesting enough to be worth our time.

Sorry about the link. I had the wrong one in the clipboard.

No, I don't want to discuss who said what, either. That's why I stayed out of it.

As for the question of accommodation, I'm a firm believer in the melting pot. I know that's not fashionable any more but I think it ought to be. I come at it from a perspective of a second generation American of Slovak ancestry.

In the melting pot, new arrivals tend to be clannish for a generation or two and then assimilate. The dominant culture comes to reflect some of the more useful or interesting elements of the new culture but, for the most part, the newcomers adapt.

I very much value these additions to the color and texture of the culture. I think that those of us who are already here should be kind, patient, and respectful to those who are new. And we should fight with all our might anything that prolongs their stay in their little enclaves.

Tim - The link at the end is to a post that addresses the suggestion that I deny the existence of racism. It also contains the text of the two msgs I wrote on "enough is enough". The second one of those, while crude, may reveal my feelings more clearly. Spice is good in the soup. I believe too much spice may ruin the soup or fundamentally change the soup in a way some will like and some will not like. Frankly, I don't see a recipe anywhere in the world that beats the one we have. Finally, as I stated last night, I favor the assimilation model vs. the mosaic model in matters of immigration. I don't think true multi-cultural societies work very well. Enjoy your reasoned and sensible comments.
