I think we've seen quite a few white rulers in South Africa. But what country in Africa has a country which was founded on the premise that taxation without representation is wrong? I think some of us have been taxed and unrepresented for quite a long time. Your personal experiences are anecdotal whether they took place on the hiring committee or not.. Perhaps you are not familiar with the meaning of the word. Unless you have subjected your personal experiences on the hiring committee to rigorous scientific analysis, they are anecdotes. I am surprised a professor wouldn't know that, even one from the business department. It isn't elitist to know what words mean. It might be elitist to rub it in that people don't know what words mean- but I don't have a problem with elitists.

So I would be in a position to speak with some authority about the issue of what role race played in these decisions. I would be interested in hearing about that. I can speak with some authority on how those decisions are made in several Executive Branch agencies. Managers trip all over themselves to find hires who present themselves well and are members of whatever group is in vogue at the time. They are usually unsuccessful because Uncle Sam can't compete on salary so they take great pride in those that they are able to reel in. In my experience, "diversity" trumps everything but style.
