So who you rooting for?

This country empowers all of us to make our own decisions and pursue our own interests in life. We can leave a company at will, we can pursue education and skills to enhance our marketability. We can choose to distinguish ourselves from our coworkers or to blend into a blissful state of status quo. The greatest limiter on us is us. Individuals make choices. We choose to be masters of our own destiny or let others choose for us. If we choose not to choose, we still have made a choice.

I agree that corporate layoffs often cause hardships. What is the alternative? Part of this is the cyclical nature of certain industries. Despite what you say, I believe that many, many corporations view their employees as their greatest asset. Most do not take layoffs lightly as you suggest. The old way is us versus them.

The great thing about freedom is that is allows us all to fail. In the long run that is what strengthens us and makes us better people. The times of greatest adversity typically coincide with the times of greatest opportunity. Our choice is how we want to view it, prepare for it and act upon it.

Freedom is a great thing, but as we are too painfully aware that freedom also carries risk. If we insulate ourselves from all risk, we fail to grow and that is the greatest risk of all.
