well it wasn't fair for about 160 years- so it would only be fair to have 160 years of unfairness in the other direction.

Perhaps this would be true if it was the same people that were effected for the whole 320 years but it would not be the same people. You would taking from Bob to give to Jill because 100 years ago someone took from Mary to give to Jim. That isn't justice that's just continuing the injustice in a different way.
