Yes he was often used as a pinch hitter or runner. Did not mind mixing it up with the opposition. I remember he, Mike Shannon and Orlando Cepeda took on the Reds in a donnybrook.

That's right, I forgot about his hitting. I think he regularly hit over .300, and used to hit some homeruns. I used to listen to Jack Buck (and later Mike Shannon) on KMOX while I was growing up.
